What’s the difference between transparent and opaque SQUID? And what happens in the evening?

SQUID window textile is one of a kind: subtle, self-adhesive, and requires no hanging system. But which version suits your situation best? Transparent or opaque? And how much privacy does it really offer in the evening? In this article, we explain it clearly.

One-way privacy during the day

All SQUID give you complete privacy during the day. The effect of SQUID Transparent is comparable with that of a transparent curtain. It allows you to look outside, while letting light inside and at the same time obscuring the view from the outside. SQUID Opaque is more closed, so it lets in a little less light and will block more view to the outside.

Can I also keep privacy at night?

Yes, but only with the SQUID Opaque. This range has a denser structure and offers greater privacy, even at night. This version blocks the view effectively and is suffcient to be used in bathrooms or bedrooms. Opaque SQUID is designed for users who want privacy in the evening without heavy window coverings.

The Opaque is not 100% blackout. You will still see shadows or outlines, but details are unrecognizable. For full privacy at night, combine transparent SQUID (daytime solution) with curtains or in-between layers (nighttime solution).

How can you increase privacy with SQUID in the evening?

There are two smart ways to enhance the privacy effect of SQUID:

  1. Use lighter colors: These offer more privacy than darker tones.
  2. Work with lighting: By using soft indoor lighting or a spotlight directed at the SQUID, you increase shielding from the outside.

Does SQUID let light through?

Both the transparent and opaque versions are light-filtering, meaning they let in natural daylight without compromising privacy.

The exact amount of light depends on:

  • The color of the SQUID (lighter colors allow more light)
  • The position of the Sun or interior lighting
  • The chosen structure (transparent or opaque)

If you're looking for complete blackout, SQUID on its own isn’t the right solution — but as part of a layered window setup, it makes an excellent daytime privacy and Sun protection solution.
