Traditional plastic foil lets some light through, but isn't see-through. So you can't look through it to see outside like you can with SQUID. Plastic foil also has a rather cold appearance, whereas SQUID will make your home feel more appealing. SQUID is also easier to install more precisely. If necessary, you can pull SQUID away from your window and simply start again.  

1) If you are looking for a lot of privacy, choose a colour that is as light as possible. With a light colour (Chalk or Bone) it is more difficult to look inside than with a dark colour.

2) If you are looking for a lot of sun protection, choose a light colour. After all, it reflects most of the solar energy.

3) If you are looking for a nice and sharp view to the outside (or a nearby room), then choose a dark color. Coal (black) gives you the most visual contact with the outside world.

4) If you are looking for light reduction to reduce annoying light reflections in your computer screen, choose a dark color. These absorb more light than the light colours.  

Partially. The effect of SQUID can be likened to the effect of transparent curtains/net curtains. During the day it prevents people from seeing in and you will keep the view outside. In the evening, how much you can see inside depends on how much light there is inside. SQUID opaque is more densely woven, which also provides more privacy in the evening/night than the transparent version. However, SQUID opaque still remains transparent at that moment, so you can still see shapes and shadows from the inside as it gets darker outside.

To achieve complete privacy, SQUID can easily be combined with other window decoration (for example curtains or blinds), because SQUID is applied directly to the window and therefore does not get in the way of e.g. rails will sit.

Yes. SQUID reflects a large proportion of heat from the sun before it enters the room. Depending on the colour, 25% to 36% of the sun's energy is reflected, making room temperature up to 3°C cooler in the Summer. Lighter colors reflect more sunlight (Chalk: 36% > Bone: 33% > Oak: 28% > Ash: 25% > Rock: 25%, Coal: 13%).

The insulating property of SQUID is negligible in both summer and winter. SQUID does reflect some of the sun's heat, however. Read more about the reflective properties of SQUID here.

SQUID will not fully black out rooms.  

For complete blackout, SQUID can be easily combined with other window decoration (e.g., curtains or blinds), since SQUID is applied directly to the window, so doesn't interfere with fixtures or fittings.

You can use these leftovers for all sorts of things. SQUID works well as a mouse mat, for example. Simply stick the fabric on your desk. And SQUID is fun for children to play with too: cut the fabric into different shapes and decorate their room with it. You can also print on SQUID using an inkjet printer: stick the fabric on a clean sheet of paper and print a photo on it as normal. Then you can hang this picture on a window or wall.

Yes, you can! SQUID has not been developed to decorate furniture or walls, but you can easily try this without worrying about damaging the surfaces. Best results are achieved when surfaces are smooth, flat and free of dust and grease.

Absolutely! SQUID is self-adhesive and sticks directly onto your window, making it so you don't need any drilling for fixtures or fittings. Follow the steps on our installation page.

1) To wash your window: bucket of water, microfiber cloth and some soap or ammonia for degreasing.

2) For installation: your SQUID roll, a sharp Stanley knife and a squeegee, spatula or ruler.

Take the measurements of your window and add a small margin (of about 5 cm) in all directions to ensure it covers the entire window.

No, glass is harder than the knife. This is also the reason why you always need to use a new blade (break off or replace the old one): cutting the fabric on the glass will make the blade blunt. As long as you're using a normal utility knife and not exerting too much pressure on the glass, the glass will remain undamaged.

You can remove dust from Squid with a microfibre cloth or vacuum with a brush. Watch here our video on Squid cleaning. Washing or cleaning with chemicals impairs its stickiness, so this must be avoided at all costs! You can use stain remover for the most stubborn stains (chocolate, crayon, honey, mayonnaise...). We recommend TMC520 for this, available from all good DIY stores.

Yes, SQUID can be removed without any permanent traces. There might be some glue residue on the window but you can easily wash it off.

After activation of the glue (total installation) we don’t recommend removing SQUID and reapplying it to avoid blister formation.

No. SQUID is only produced in rolls that are 130 cm wide. The self-adhesive fabric comes with a backing layer with small squares printed on it, so it's easy to cut to the right size. Make sure you always leave a 5cm overlap on all sides before cutting the fabric.

Yes, this is possible! Have a look at this installation video to install SQUID on large surface, which will it explain it step-by-step.

Blisters or air bubbles sometimes appear when there is too much tension on the fabric. To help fix this problem, pull your SQUID away from the window until there are no air bubbles left. Then stick your SQUID to the window again with as little tension as possible. If this doesn't work, you can completely remove the fabric from your window and reinstall. Make sure your window is free of dust and grease and press SQUID firmly to the window. The glue is pressure sensitive.

SQUID is antifungal, which means that it protects against a broad spectrum of molds and fungi, but since there are millions of species, it is impossible to prevent all molds from forming (comparable to a vaccine). This happens sometimes when there is condense formation on the windows.

To get rid of mold, do the following: take a cloth or cotton swab with bleach and apply it to the stains. Apply generously and wet the spots completely. Let this dry and repeat the next day if necessary. The mold should be removed after repeating this a few times, but usually once is enough to remove all spots.

We also recommend not pulling SQUID loose from the window and simply leaving it on while applying the bleach.

Do not use any products other than bleach. Many anti-mold products have other components (e.g. sodium hydroxide) that could damage the adhesive and even the fabric.

SQUID can only be used on smooth glass surfaces without curvatures.

Yes. SQUID can be used on HR++(+) glass. Due to its breathable nature compared to plastic window foil, the heat can escape and hence SQUID cannot be the cause of a thermal fractures. We do ask to avoid our color coal and to install SQUID across the entire surface of the window.

Yes! Clean the glass thoroughly and position the SQUID as instructed to create an attractive glass door with fewer finger marks. Your door is more visible with SQUID too, so accidents can be avoided!

No. SQUID has been developed for inside use only.

Yes, SQUID can be placed on skylights and conservatories, provided the material is made of flat glass and not plexiglas/plastic. SQUID cannot be placed on cupolas as this has a curved surface.

Yes. SQUID sticks directly to the glass so it can slide behind the fixed part of the window perfectly.

Yes. Many of our customers combine SQUID with other window decoration like curtains or blinds, for example to completely black out the room. SQUID sticks directly to the glass so it won't interfere with any other window decoration.

Yes. SQUID has been developed to also function optimally in humid rooms. This means that SQUID stays stuck in rooms with a high level of humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. Exposing SQUID directly to water should however be avoided. A few drops can't cause any harm, but a flow of water is not good for its stickiness.

Absolutely. SQUID has been tested against strong UV rays and this does not change the glue's colour or weaken its strength. Because the fabric is stuck straight on the glass, it reflects some of the sun's heat, so a room where SQUID is installed is less likely to overheat. This makes SQUID particularly suitable for skylights, conservatories and south-facing sliding doors.

Yes, you can! SQUID has not been developed to decorate furniture or walls, but you can easily try this without worrying if you wish. You must however always first ensure that surfaces are free of dust and grease. Dust and grease are enemies of the SQUID glue; they work against the fabric's adhesive properties.
